POINTS:
Narratives = the stories we tell ourselves about why something has happened.
Romans 12:2 is the basic model of repentance. It is turning from a broken narrative to God’s narrative.
Many of the narratives that we have were given to us.
Broken reasons “why” inform the “no reason why” narratives.
The fruit of broken narratives is excuses.
Excuses empower us to avoid things we should not avoid and embrace things we should stay away from.
Three steps to break down the walls that divide us:
March by faith
We do it together
Don’t stop short
Faith is engaging your reasoning based on your experience with God and His word, and doing what He says to do.
Faith takes your thoughts off autopilot and forces you to start thinking about what you’re thinking about.
Our narratives weren’t formed alone; they can’t be torn down alone.
It takes faith to be vulnerable, ask for prayer, and let others help you.
We are all affected by each other’s broken narratives, whether we know about them or not.
Perseverance = to persist in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.
Seven is the number for completeness in the Bible.
Walk until the job is complete.
Forlorn = unlikely to succeed or be fulfilled.
