POINTS:

  • Limit: a boundary; a point or level beyond which something cannot go.

  • Burnout: when we experience prolonged or excessive emotional, physical, and mental stress and exhaustion.

  • Dysfunction: when one person overfunctions while another person underfunctions.

  • For every yes we say, there is a no that we give someone else.

  • Fear causes us to control (overfunction) or disengage (underfunction).

  • Limits are gifts.

  • Satan tempts us to disregard and redefine God’s limits based on a distorted belief system so that he not only hinders our relationship with God but also our relationship with others.

  • Jesus says that the path of real abundant life is limited.

  • God places limits on us to protect, provide, and bring us into an even deeper relationship with Him.

  • God never tells us to live up to our potential: instead, He tells us to live up to our purpose.

  • God-given limits: personality and temperament, seasons, singleness or marriage, financial, physical, intellectual, and time.

  • God shows up in God-given limits!

  • Self-imposed limits are lies we’ve believed about who we are that cause us to say yes when we shouldn’t and no when we shouldn’t.

  • Learning your God-given and self-imposed limits is hard work that can’t be done alone.

  • No one will ever be pleased with you all the time.

  • God loves you and is pleased with you.

  • We practice limits daily through God-care.

  • “Self-care is not the same as resting in God’s care. Trying to self-protect can be how we self-destruct. Trying to save oneself can be how to lose oneself.” -Ann Voskamp
