POINTS:
Egalitarians believe gender is not a restriction on your calling, and women are free to serve as pastors, elders, and teachers, as are men. If you are gifted and called, your gender is not a restriction.
Egalitarians believe in shared authority.
Complementarians believe men and women are equal in their spiritual worth and dignity but are designed by God to have distinct, complementary roles in the home and the church.
Being called and equipped to lead and preach is not a gender based calling.
By overlooking half of his creation, we miss out on the fullness of His presence.
2 ways we tend to address these gender-based issues: 1. We argue our opinion openly and loudly, and as often as possible. 2. We seek to avoid the issue altogether and claim silence is the best means to address this difference.
Mutual submission applies to all believers in the church, because it removes the human hierarchies by requiring mutual respect and service regardless of status, gender, or position.
Adam and Eve were side by side, partners, describing Eve as “Ezer kenegdo”. “Ezer” = help in times of war, “kenegdo” = a compatible partner (assistant or protector at his own level).
Jesus came to lift the curse.
Luke 4:18-20 confirms a universal calling for both men and women to carry the ministry of evangelism and social restoration.
