POINTS:
Promise breaking = avoidance
Once you start breaking promises in one area, you will start breaking promises in other areas.
Integrity: doing what you say you are going to do.
Pride is the main cause for promise-breaking.
Apostasy: the renunciation and abandonment of Christianity (falling away).
Jesus tells us that yeses and noes should be treated as a commitment.
Making and keeping promises protects our hearts from bitterness.
Our ability to make and keep promises affects our identity.
When we break our promises we break ourselves.
Satan will attack your word, because by doing so he attacks your identity and the church simultaneously.
The result of promise-breaking will eventually be aloneness.
The two responses of breaking promises is stop making promises and overcommitment.
Jesus shows us a third way to make promises, and that is to make a promise in love.
Before we can be a promise-keeper, we have to be a promise-maker.
The power to make and keep promises is found in our attachment to Jesus.
