What’s Wrong With Us?

SEXUAL IMMORALITY

Main Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 6:13-20

Additional Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 1:2-3, Galatians 6:1, 1 Peter 4:8, John 8:3-11, Romans 3:23, James 5:16, Matthew 7:5, Psalm 51:1-12

POINTS:

  • Wherever we exclude God, we will always include the devil.

  • God defines what is moral and immoral.

  • We must know God’s heart before we know His rules.

  • When we exclude God from the bedroom, we carry the shame of our sin there instead of God’s love.

  • Immorality = taking the dwelling place of God and exposing it to sin.

  • Sexual immorality = taking the most holy place of that dwelling (the holy of holies) and exposing it to sin.

  • Sexual immorality doesn’t just affect you individually; it affects the church corporately.

  • It’s the handling of immorality that gets the church into more trouble than the immorality itself.

  • Human wisdom handles immorality in two ways: shame and blame, or whatever goes.

  • We must handle immorality God’s way, and His is the way of love.

  • So many of the broken choices we make stem from our search for love.

  • He designed sex to be the closest experience to the Trinity that we can have here on earth.

  • The devil wants to bring hell to the bedroom.

  • Dealing with immorality:

  1. Get rid of the immorality in our lives.

  2. Flee from sexual immorality.

  3. Find someone who can hold you accountable.

  4. Approach others’ immorality like a speck of dust in their eye.
