POINTS:

• The question isn’t can women lead, the question is should they?

• When studying a text, you should consider it within the context of the entire Bible.

• We also need the Holy Spirit to interpret scripture.

• “Gender hierarchy is a dysfunction of sin, not a proper function of the image of God.” - Rev. Ryan Carter

• Jesus’s purpose for coming was to destroy the works of the devil, which includes the curse of sin, and to establish God’s kingdom.

• The church is meant to be a foretaste of His eternal kingdom, where gender hierarchy will be no more.

• Your gender is not the determining factor for evangelism, prophecy, or any other spiritual gift; the Holy Spirit is.

• To put women in a lesser role and require them to remain silent is condoning and encouraging division in the church.

  • It also creates a class of people who are considered “less spiritual” because of their gender.

• 55% of churches in the US today, and 74% of evangelical and protestant churches in the US today, don’t believe women should lead.

• 98% of evangelical/protestant churches in the US today believe women can’t be senior pastors.

• 8% of Foursquare churches are led by a woman.

• Takeaways: Let scripture challenge your assumptions, honor others above yourselves, and engage in this fight.
