POINTS:

• Speech gifts: prophecy, tongues, and interpretation of tongues.

• Prophecy: the ability to receive and proclaim openly a revealed message from God, which prepares the church for obedience.

• Prophecy is a message from God, and it prepares the church for obedience.

• Prophecy brings God’s unchanging revelation in Christ to life for the present generation.

• Prophecy involves a revelation from God, a proper interpretation, and application of that revelation.

• It is possible to get the revelation right, but interpret or apply the word incorrectly.

• Tongues: speech inspired by the Holy Spirit in a language the speaker does not understand.

• Two different forms of tongues: as a language for personal prayer and praise, and tongues as a public message for the congregation.

• Tongues as a prayer language is a means by which the Holy Spirit enables a person to pray, praise, and thank God.

• Praying in tongues is a weapon of warfare against the enemy because the enemy cannot interpret tongues.

• The gift of tongues as a message for the church only fulfills its purpose when an interpretation follows it.

• Tests for speech gifts: Is it true? Is it loving? Does it give glory to Christ? Does it work together to build up the body of Christ?
